At the end of World War II, almost all of Japan was hit by air raids, and many cities were devastated.
The Great Air Raid that hit Tokyo on March 10, 1945 killed about 100,000 people
in only a few hours, and over a million are believed to have been affected.
At this event, we will start by listening to Mrs. Setsuko Kawai, who lost her
mother and two younger brothers in the Tokyo bombing.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, and everyone is
invited to hear the precious and deeply moving testimonies of those who lived
through it.
The second part of this event will address the issue of relief for civilian air
raid victims, who received no state support or compensation after the war.
Also, these victims have not been surveyed or registered, and efforts
in memory of the deceased remain insufficient. Mr. Sadao Kitazawa, a lawyer,
will explain this issue.
